Metal Roofing in Fleming Island
Choose standing seam or screw-down panels, fastened for wind and flashed carefully at every vent and wall. Each workday ends with shavings brushed off the panels and a magnet run across the yard, so your home looks the way it did before the crew arrived.
A Roof Chosen for the Long Stretch
Metal roofing suits homeowners who plan to stay put and would rather not think about the roof again for a long while. It sheds rain quickly, handles wind well when it is fastened correctly, and reflects much of the afternoon sun instead of soaking it into the attic.
The material is only half the result. Metal grows and shrinks with every hot day and cool night, so the clips, fasteners and trim details decide whether a roof stays quiet and tight or starts to loosen. We spend our time on those details, and we treat the job site with the same care.
If your current roof is shingle and you are weighing options, our roof replacement page covers asphalt in more depth. We are glad to price both so you can compare them side by side.
What a Metal Roof Project Includes
Profile and color selection
We walk you through standing seam with concealed clips and screw-down panels like 5V crimp, and show what each looks like on a home similar to yours. Painted finishes come in a range of colors, and lighter shades help keep attic heat down.
Tear-off with the yard covered
Tarps go over beds and shrubs, plywood protects the driveway where the dumpster sits, and old material goes straight into the container instead of onto the lawn.
Decking check and high-temperature underlayment
Once the old roof is off, we look at every sheet of decking and replace soft or rotted wood. A synthetic underlayment rated for the heat under metal goes down before any panel does.
Flashing at every opening
Pipe boots, vents, chimneys and wall transitions get flashing made for metal, so water has a clear path off the roof.
Panels cut on the ground
We trim panels at a station set away from your home and use shears rather than abrasive blades, which throw hot filings that can scorch the paint.
Daily sweep for shavings and screws
Tiny steel shavings left on a roof rust within days and leave orange streaks. We sweep the panels before leaving each afternoon and run a magnet across the yard and driveway.
Signs Metal Roofing Is Worth a Look
Your shingles are near the end
Granules collecting in the gutters, curling tabs and bare spots mean replacement is coming. That is the natural moment to price metal.
Wind keeps taking pieces
If you pick up shingles from the lawn after every summer storm, a properly fastened metal roof is worth comparing.
Rust around exposed screws
On an older screw-down roof, rubber washers wear out and screws back out as the panels move. Orange rings at the fastener heads are the first clue.
Leaks at seams or trim
Drips near ridge caps, valleys or pipe boots on a metal roof usually point to tired sealant or flashing rather than failed panels. Our roof repair crew can often fix those without new metal.
A hot upstairs
A dark shingle roof holds heat well into the evening. A reflective metal finish with good attic ventilation can make the top floor noticeably more comfortable.
The Steps of a Metal Roof Job
- 1
Free estimate visit
We take measurements, note every opening in the roof, look in the attic and discuss profiles and colors with you. The written estimate spells out the materials and scope.
- 2
Permit and ordering
We pull the permit and order panels and trim cut to your measurements. Your start date is set before the materials show up.
- 3
Cover, strip and dry in
We protect the yard before anything else. Only as much roof comes off as we can dry in the same day, so the house is never open overnight.
- 4
Panels, trim and county review
Panels are fastened with clips or screws spaced for your home's wind requirements, followed by ridge, eave and gable trim. The county inspector then checks the completed roof.
- 5
Cleanup and final walk
We run the magnet one last time, haul off the dumpster and go around the property with you, including the roof and gutters.
What Moves the Price
Every metal roof is priced from its own measurements, so we don't quote figures before we have seen the roof. These are the things that make the biggest difference. Financing is available if you want to spread the cost out.
- Panel profile
- Standing seam takes more labor and trim than screw-down panels, and it hides the fasteners that need upkeep on exposed systems.
- Roof shape
- A simple gable goes quickly. Hips, valleys, dormers and skylights each need custom-bent flashing and careful cuts.
- Metal gauge and finish
- Thicker steel and premium paint systems cost more up front and resist dents and fading better.
- What's under the old roof
- Extra layers to remove or decking to replace adds time and material, and we show you photos of anything we find.
Common Questions About Metal Roofs
Something not covered here? (904) 925-3052
Is a metal roof noisy when it rains?
On a home, only slightly. The panels rest on plywood with underlayment in between, and that backing absorbs most of the sound before it reaches the living space. Metal got its noisy name from barns and sheds, where sheets are fastened right onto open purlins. Attic insulation quiets it further.
Can metal go right over my current shingles?
It is sometimes permitted, but we generally advise tearing off. That way we can inspect the decking for rot and avoid sealing moisture beneath the new panels. We will give you a straight recommendation for your house.
Does a steel roof attract lightning?
No. Lightning goes for the tallest point nearby regardless of what the roof is made of. If a strike does hit the house, which is rare, steel spreads the charge over its surface and will not burn, which is a point in its favor.
Can hail or a falling branch dent the panels?
Large hail or a heavy limb can dent thinner metal. Thicker gauges resist better, and matte or textured finishes disguise minor marks. We can walk through these choices at your estimate.
Can you help with my insurance claim after storm damage?
We can. Our post-storm inspections are free, and we deal directly with your insurance adjuster on storm damage claims. The storm damage repair page describes how it works.
